Aaaaaaaah Venice, a city for all the senses! Oars splashes in the quiet, narrow back canals, the shouts of 'Gondolagondola!', in the main tourist areas, rumbling diesel engines powering along the major canals, the angelic sound of a choir at midnight Easter mass in St Marks, a heaven of gold mosaic glittering above the sweet music, delicious aromas wafting from trattorias and osterias, the whiff of the upcoming summer canal stench in the peak of the midday sun, the rough ancient stone walls under your hand, the gentle rocking of a gondola gliding through sun drenched waterways, the tension in your legs as you brave the canal crossing standing up in a gondola with ten other people - Venetian style, the taste of squid cooked in its own ink, so tender you don't have to chew, the sweetness of a Bellini washing down the tiredness at the end of a day absorbed in this wondrous magnificent heart achingly beautiful city, with exquisite vistas at every turn. Venice, you have my heart.
